Jim in front of a water fountain in Milano

Jim serves as PulseTor's Chief Operations and Financial Officer and is responsible for Mechanical Design and Production. Jim is well-known for both his expertise in producing diffracting crystals, pseudo crystals and flow proportional counters for WDS spectrometers and his production of state-of-the art Si(Li) detectors through AAT, a company he co-founded with Nick Barbi in 1998. AAT, under Jim's direction, has developed a strong international reputation for quality detector repairs with the fastest turn-around time in the industry. Jim continues to operate his long-standing WDS component company, X-Ray Optics, Inc., on a reduced scale, making crystals for researchers at our national laboratories as well as for current WDS suppliers.

Earlier in his career, Jim introduced the line of consumable EM supplies while at Tousimis Research Corporation, and served as a mechanical technician for microprobes at Materials Analysis Corporation.

Jim earned a BS Degree at San Jose State University, majoring in Math and Mechanical Engineering. He learned the art of making lead stearate films under the expert tutelage of Professor Burt Henke while at the University of Hawaii. These "pseudo crystals" enabled analysis of light elements in the early microprobes until mid 80s, when the more efficient sputtered multilayer diffractors were introduced.

Jim is a member of MAS and AAT continues to be an MAS corporate sponsor.
